Скажите пожалуйста, почему суицидальные наклонности считаются болезнью? разве это не может быть адекватным отношением к каким либо проблемам неразрешающимся.

Word "up" looks as a separate word in mysentence but it doesn't translates seperately, It makes one word together with the word "build" that is the word "build-up" which in russian means накапливать, воздвигать, etc, You need to increase your vocabulary from the dictonaries that list the words that are two-part word/verb like "look out" , "give up", etc and provide their translation. you just memorize them and then use in the sentences, dr.love

Dear mary, the usage depends on the context of your sentense or your story. for that you have to use the common sense and judgment. for example, if you want to say: заместитель директора временно взял на себя обязанности директора ввиду болезни последнего, you may say: deputy director temporarily took over the director's duties due to his illness. Here take over means взять на себя.
